Message from the Office of the Bishop:
EXTENSION OF DISPENSATION FROM SUNDAY MASS OBLIGATION: Due to the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, Bishop Larry Silva extends the dispensation of all the people of the Diocese of Honolulu and all visitors to the Diocese of Honolulu from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass through October 31, 2020. All who are able to attend Sunday Mass without putting themselves or others at serious risk of infection are encouraged to do so, but are not obliged to do so. Per the City and County of Honolulu COVID-19 Response Information Team, "Churches and other houses of worship can still celebrate Mass and conduct spiritual services without a 10 person capacity limitation under the guidelines of Exhibit A #11 (see attached) “In-person spiritual services”. In addition, "Celebration of Funeral Mass, Weddings, and Baptisms may take place according to the guidelines from Bishop Larry Silva for the Reopening of Catholic Churches in Hawaii during the COVID-19 Pandemic (dated May 22, 2020 – see attached). As a reminder Funerals at this time may not include visitation times, only the Vigil for the Deceased, the Funeral Mass, and the Committal. |
